[2601] RG Cube XX Refresh Rate Issue With Shimmerless Grid

I use Sharp-Shimmerless-Grid for my games. I didn’t have issues on prior MuOS versions but on Jacaranda I noticed I’m getting a lot of stuttering and performance issues. Looking at stats I see that the FPS is not running at 60FPS but instead at 30FPS and the estimated screen refresh rate is 30Hz. The shader seems to cause weird issues on other systems but the most noticeable is with Gambatte Core.

Device: RG Cube XX
MuOS Build: ec9e9f32

Steps To Reproduce:

  1. Load any gameboy or gameboy color game via Gambatte Core
  2. Switch shaders from Sharp-Shimmerless to Sharp-Shimmerless-Grid.

I’m also encountering this issue. I can work around it by using lcd3x instead on gba using mgba since its already integer scaled, but I havent tested gb/gbc with this as I prefer sharp shimmerless for those systems to help make pixels appear balanced while filling out the screen.

lcd3x fixed the in game performance for gb/gbc, but retroarch still was moving at no more than 30fps.

Discovered something. Going to RA Settings > Video > Synchronization > Enabling “Sync to Exact Content Framerate (G-Sync, FreeSync)” seems to fix the refresh rate issue. You can turn it off after and it still works. Only bad thing is you have to do it each time if you plan on using those shaders.

There will be some improvements to the rendering system for the 2601.1 release. This should alleviate issues regarding specific shaders within RetroArch.

Please see the following changes…

If issues persist after the 2601.1 release please create a new issue thread.
