Channel 8 - A PICO-8 Launcher

Channel 8

Channel 8 is a PICO-8 launcher. It uses Love2D to display the cart images and allows you to select them.

DOWNLOAD

Controls

Select : Quits the program
A : Runs the selected game
R1 : Jump 10 carts to the right
L1 : Jump 10 carts to the left

Setup

To start download the .muxzip and use Archive Manager to extract it.

Channel 8 uses the pico8_64 file. You can get it by purchasing PICO-8 from Lexaloffle. The pico8_64 is from downloading the Raspberry Pi version of PICO-8. To allow the Love2D to run the PICO-8 carts pico8_64 much be placed in /mnt/mmc/MUOS/application/Channel 8/

Note: I also had the pico8.dat file as well.

You can place your carts in /mnt/mmc/MUOS/application/Channel 8/carts/. There is already a simple Snake game I made.

Quitting

To exit a PICO-8 you can press start and select shutdown this will bring you back to Channel 8 where you can press select to exit or run another game.

Quirks

Pressing the MENU button while running a PICO-8 cart that was launched by Channel 8 can have some issues. I recommend restarting your device immediately.

I have only tested on an RG35xxSP device but I have tested other resolutions using my PC.

Final Notes

This is my first Love2D app so I’m sure it will have bugs.

I had difficulty accessing other files. For example: I’d like to take the carts from /mnt/sdcard/ROMS/pico8/ rather than having a separate folder for the carts. Likewise I’d like to use the pico8_64 file in the bios folder. If anyone can explain how to do that feel free to hit me up. (My discord is in my About Me)

Feedback would be great. I’m going to keep working on this project but I want to get it out there.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone how has made a Love2D program for muOS. I think I looked at most of the available ones to figure out how this works.

Thanks to the muOS team for the great firmware.

Thanks to Lexaloffle for making PICO-8 so available.
