Hi everyone! I could really use some help because I’m kind of lost.
I have an RG35XX-H with two SD cards: a 32GB SD1 and a 128GB SD2. I haven’t formatted SD2 in a very long time and I’ve been using it continuously, probably since the Baked Beans release.
I haven’t really had much time for gaming lately, so I stopped using the device for a while. Recently I started using it again, and out of nowhere it began freezing randomly. Sometimes even the soft reset wouldn’t work, and the only way to restart it was by pressing the reset button. (Yeah, I know that’s not ideal because it can corrupt the system, but it was the only way to get it to reboot.)
I noticed the freezes happened at random times, whether I was playing PortMaster ports or using RetroArch.
At first I thought it was a system issue, so I took the opportunity to update from Loose Goose to Jacaranda. Unfortunately, the exact same thing happened. In fact, it seemed to happen even faster after restoring my backup. Keep in mind that everything was stored on SD2—ROMs, saves, configs, everything. SD1 only had the OS.
I gave up on that idea and thought maybe my old SD1 was the problem. It was an old SanDisk card and not even Class 10, so I bought a brand-new genuine SanDisk 32GB Class 10. I tested the card’s actual capacity to make sure it was genuine, and it passed without any issues.
I formatted it with SD Card Formatter, installed muOS, restored my backup… and the same thing happened again. Actually, it got even worse. After one of the resets, the screen started showing vertical lines (sometimes in the middle, sometimes on the left side), and it would freeze during boot, stuck on the loading screen until I hit reset again.
That’s when I noticed something even stranger. Pressing reset wouldn’t actually turn the device off. What I ended up doing was pressing reset, removing the SD card, putting it back in… and then it still wouldn’t power on normally. The only way to start it was by pressing reset again.
At first I didn’t think much of it, but it almost feels like the device never really turns off, even though the LED is off. If I leave it alone for several hours or even until the next day and then start it with the reset button, the vertical lines are gone… but the battery is completely drained.
So that’s where I am now. Sometimes it freezes, sometimes I get the vertical lines, and sometimes I can actually use it, but the lines are still there, which makes me nervous. I usually turn it off, and after leaving it alone for a few hours, the lines disappear again.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
Could it be my SD2 since it’s been used through so many muOS versions without ever being reformatted?
Or does this sound more like a hardware issue?
I also thought about going back to an older muOS version, but I haven’t tried that yet and I’m not even sure it makes sense.
