MuOS ships with ScummVM stand-alone, a decision I agree with. It’s a pain to wrap any kind of launcher around ScummVM in a consistent manner. It’s best that it be it’s own app with it’s own list of games.
I’d like to be able to allow users to launch ScummVM but no other apps. I thought of a couple ways this might work:
Whitelist ScummVM so that it still works in Kiosk mode
In the ‘content’ page of the UI, instead of treating ScummVM like other cores, just have it be a symlink to the ScummVM app.
Due to the design ethos of MustardOS we are not going to allow applications to be launched on first boot. Why would you not allow launching from the content explorer with the games set up from there? Or you could set up a collection of ScummVM games and boot directly to collections.
Maybe I wasn’t clear. The intent here is to prevent users from going into Dingux commander and wiping out important files/folders. I don’t want ScummVM to launch on first boot. But it would be nice to let users launch this ‘app’ while not touching the other apps.
Nothing, I think it’s perfect. I ran several ScummVM titles and they all worked flawlessly.
I probably should have chosen a better title for this thread. Let me try and explain myself more clearly:
When the end user navigates to the Content page in the UI they see a list of consoles and platforms. With every other platform you select it and get a list of games that you can launch.
ScummVM is kind of a different animal though. As you are no doubt aware, trying to slap Retroarch in front of ScummVM doesn’t make sense and is a huge pain in the arse to manage correctly. ScummVM wants to have its own game list and settings so it runs as a standalone app.
So a better way to phrase the feature request would be:
”Allow the admin to disable/hide apps selectively, so that the ScummVM app can be launched, but Dingux Commander cannot be launched in kiosk mode (or otherwise).”
