In the DS emulator the game freezes and doesn't let you do anything else

I was playing pokemon black on my rg35xxsp and I had to close the console but when I opened it and turned it back, the screen freezes and the game stays blank, it only lets me restart it with the reset button, from there on it doesn’t let me do anything else, I already tried letting the battery die and connecting it but it stays gray

Hey there, this is a known issue that isn’t caused by muOS, it is actually caused by the autosave feature built-in to the external Drastic-advanced core that we use as default for NDS emulation.

This is caused by the autosave feature saving a corrupted save state due to a bug. The emulator then (unsuccessfully) attempts to load this corrupted save state automatically, due to the autosave/load setting.

Firstly, when you are stuck, please avoid using the reset button, as this can cause our SD card to become corrupted. Please use the safe shutdown or safe restart shortcuts, as explained here: When Should I Use The Reset Button?

To fix this issue, you need to locate the corrupted save state in muos/save/ and delete it. It will appear in the drastic folder: the corrupted autosave state is usually called temp.dss or similar. However, to be sure you have deleted all autosaves, you can also delete all save states that end with "_10 ", as these are all autosaves by default.

Then you will be able to load any NDS game, and make sure you go to the drastic settings and change the autosave/load setting from yes to no and then make sure you scroll to the bottom of the same settings page and select save for all games.

This will fix the issue for now, and prevent it from happening again.

The next upcoming release of muOS (Goose) has fixed this issue with autosave altogether, so after updating to the newest release once it has released, you may turn the autosave option back on without any worry.
