As of a few days ago I’m having trouble connecting to some services over my home wifi. RetroAchievements gives me “no response” when it tries to log in with retroarch, pico-8 splore times out everytime I try to refresh a game list, and portmaster takes a minute or two at least to load port data (though it eventually says it completes).
When I connect my device to my phone hotspot, i don’t get any issues here that ive seen (retroarch loads my retroachievements just fine) but I don’t want to need to use my hotspot anytime I want wifi to work. I use tailscale and a pihole, but tried disabling tailscale to no avail, and tried changing my router to not use my pihole which didn’t help either. my pihole does not show many or any logs from my muos devices anyways so something may be happening at a
Is there anything I can do to help diagnose what’s going on on my device, any logs I can look at? Or is this something that’s been seen by other folks too?
I heard through the grapevine of developers that when this type of thing comes up in the server, this could be a 2.4Ghz vs 5Ghz band issue. It could also be too new of a WPA type on your modem/router that isn’t playing nice. Since it’s happening on two devices the chance of it being the mSD seems lower than something like these solutions unless you got really unlucky.
If none of them are the problem, there is also a new patch for Pixie coming that may address your Wi-Fi issues. @xonglebongle knows more than me about this.
I did see there was a patch in the works in another thread so i’ll watch for that. My router hasn’t changed though, things were working up to a couple days ago when I needed to rebuild my pi-hole and tweak my router’s dns settings, but nothing else has changed there as far as I can tell. I did try both 5g and 2.4g and saw no difference in behavior though.
I am able to ssh into the device just fine though, and check the web ui for sftp and syncthing, and when SSH’d i can run traceroute and ping to various domains just fine, its just the main network uses that are giving me trouble. Hopefully the wifi tweak patch will help out here.
and its working on my sp just fine now. I did change to the 5ghz ssid from my 2.4ghz one. maybe there was some stale info in the network stack somewhere. Here’s hoping whatever caused this is less likely to happen after the update thats coming
