Proposal: “Controller Mode” for RG35XX (USB → Bluetooth later)

Hi muOS team ,

congratulations on the amazing work you’ve done so far. The level of polish, features, and performance you’ve achieved on the XX chip is remarkable. That said, we all know this hardware has natural limits — especially in HDMI output resolution and raw performance.

Many users use a RG35XX alongside a more powerful console that’s mainly connected to a TV.

Here’s the idea: when the main console is running the game on the TV, the RG35XX could act as a dedicated controller for Player 2 (or even Player 1).

Primary Use Case

  • Fixed setup: more powerful console connected to the TV via HDMI
  • RG35XX as controller: connected via USB in the first implementation (simpler to develop), recognized as a standard HID gamepad
  • Future step: Bluetooth HID support for wireless gameplay

Second Use Case

  • Two muOS consoles: two friends each have an RG35XX or other muOS devices
  • One runs the game (via TV or handheld), the second switches to Controller Mode and acts as Player 2 without extra hardware

Why It Makes Sense

  • Maximizes usage of the handheld when it’s not in active play
  • Enables instant multiplayer without buying an extra controller
  • Works well for local streaming scenarios (RetroArch Netplay, Moonlight, etc.)
  • A standout feature that could make muOS unique among custom firmwares
