Hi!

1. To update retroarch/ppsspp i think it’s better to update muos, there’s new version by the way. Portmaster can update itself, you just need to connect to network and open portmater app, if new version is available, it will download and install it

3. To turnoff retroarch autosave when game is closing, you need to make sure that retroacrh config freedom is enabled in advanced settings, then go to retroarch settings, saving, auto save state, turn it off, then go to main menu of retroarch, congfiguration file, save current configuration.

5. I recommend Scrappy to scrape boxarts. You can check other apps here

6. It’s possible to watch youtube, there is an app you can use. To watch movies you can download them on your sd card and put them to ROMS/Media/

7. To change speed you should go to retroarch settings, frame trottle, fast-forward rate. As with auto save state - retroarch freedom, and save current configuration.

8. Folder name doesn’t really matter, if system doesn’t understand what system content is the folder, you can choose system yourseft. You can read more about it here

9. Muos site might have not the latest information, so it’s possible that site info is just not updated. I have the same version of ppsspp.

It will be really helpfull to look THE GRAND TOUR. It also might help with your future questions. Also this might be helpful.

Don’t know anything about sd card wear or enabling bluetooth effect, this post might be helpful too.

  1. Portmaster updates itself at every launch when connected to the internet. Retroarch and PPSSPP are purpose built for muOS from source and are always up to date with each system update/release. There’s no easy way to update those unless you want to build them yourself, but there’s also no need, since muOS updates are not far from each other. Retroarch cores, what really matters, are also purpose built by the muOS crew and updated regularly, as there are no updated oficial repository for the aarch64 versions of those, and if any significant change is made you can update those specific cores with the core downloader in muOS.

  2. This info seems like reddit exotérica. What wears a card is writing and erasing huge quantities of data, what linux will not do, especially muOS. Unless you fill your card with roms and then delete everything and then repeat the process again several times each day, a good card should last a long time. With that said, sd cards are not a great storage format, they may stop working out of nowhere, without any fault of the user or OS, that’s just the nature of the media.

  3. You can just use a long press of the A button to not load the auto save state when launching content. You can also change the behavior of this feature in Configuration>Customisation>Content Save State Launch . The wear of the save states on the sd card is negligible, you can just change the option to “hold A” so a single press will load the game clean and when needed holding A will launch the auto save.

  4. No. Having bluetooth devices being connected may use a little more energy, but it is negligible. Also, nothing here can affect the sd card. Wifi and bluetooth share the same hardware, check this: What happened to the Wi-Fi toggle?

  5. You should check what’s already available by default within muOS and also for the 3rd party apps here in Release - MustardOS Community Forum . If you intend to use bluetooth devices, the bluetooth app is a great companion.

  6. mustardOS have “cores” for playing video files, as if you were launching games, and those work pretty great. You can try third party apps for youtube, and they work, but the h700 is not really powerful enough to deliver a good experience, at least in my opinion. Test at them for yourself and decide! You can find them in the apps section I linked above.

  7. Those are retroarch options. For the hold FF vs toggle FF, some cores (for gba the gpSP) have the hold FF integrated, and i recommend using it, as the alternative is to disable the hotkey enabler entirely to have all shortcuts being one single button press, and losing a ton of the shortcut functions already set in retroarch. For setting the FF speed launch a game from the console you want to set it, access the retroarch quick menu with menu+X , navigate back to retroarch’s main menu, then configuration, frame throttle(or something similar), and there should be an option for FF speed. Check if the setting you have choose is what you want, than back in the retroarch quick menu go to override, and save core override, so the changes are saved.

  8. muOS does not care for folder names. All folders will be shown in the explore content tab, some more commonly used names will have auto assigned cores, and if muOS can’t pick a core, it will ask you to assign one when first launching from that folder, or you can manually assign/change a core by pressing X over any game in a folder, navigating through the core assign menu until you find the one you want, and using A to assign it to just one game, or X to assign it for the whole folder.

  9. As muOS builds from source, it can happen that it has a more up to date version of an app than the official release.

I strongly suggest you take a look at FAQ - MustardOS Community Forum and at https://muos.dev/ to understand more about common doubts and to learn about how mustardOS works.

I think I got everything mostly right, if not, anybody is free to present corrections!
