using mGBA core is usually flawless, then with achievments turned on pokemon emerald gets some random really rough fps drops below 60, chopping up the sound. also fastforward is barely noticable
Unfortunately the IO on these devices is extremely limited. This means that whenever retroachievementsâ assets are being loaded or downloaded, this puts a large load on the limited IO available on these budget devices. That is why you are seeing ârandomâ drops in frame rate.
The maximum fast forward speed for mGBA is quite low as mGBA places a large focus on emulation accuracy which obviously takes more power to do so. That means there is less overhead available so when fast forward is enabled there isnât much more power available to run at a much higher speed. You can alleviate part of this by enabling threaded video in retroarch settings - make sure you donât have any content loaded when changing this setting. Just have the core loaded and save a core override.
If maximum fast forward speed is your priority, then gpSP is the recommendation, as it uses speed hacks to reach a higher maximum fast forward speed at the cost of emulation accuracy. This reduction in accuracy should only be a problem for romhacks which require an accurate emulator to run. You can easily change cores with select on explore content. You can transfer your save file between cores by copying your save to the respective folder within muos/save
Itâs not that the speedup wasnât fast enough, it didnât exist. I was getting 60fps with stutters on mGBA and sub 65fps speedups! Regardless I just moved saves over and gpSP works flawlessly and has great speedup. appreciate the tip!
