Hey everyone!
I’ve been tinkering with my RG40XX H and building a collection of small applications for MuOS. I figured I’d share them here in case anyone else finds them useful.
I spend considerably more time experimenting with these handhelds than actually playing games on them, and I enjoy seeing what else the hardware can do.
These applications were built primarily for my own use, with a focus on simple interfaces, straightforward controls, and minimal unnecessary features. Most use a consistent, MinUI-inspired interface.
The Applications
- XXAB (XX Audiobook) — An MP3 audiobook player with folder-based organization, playback position saving, sleep timers, screen locking, and volume boost.
- XXBR (XX Book Reader) — An EPUB reader with adjustable brightness and Day, Night, and Sepia reading modes.
- XXMP (XX Music Player) — An MP3/FLAC music player with recursive folder scanning, playlist creation and management (M3U8), shuffle, repeat, volume boost, and screen-off playback.
- XXCG (XX Card Games) — A card game collection currently featuring Klondike Solitaire and Spider Solitaire (one-suit and four-suit).
- XXTT (XX Table Top) — A simple dice roller supporting 1d6 through 5d6, designed with future expansion in mind.
Compatibility
All applications were developed for and tested on my Anbernic RG40XX H running MuOS.
They’re designed around the H700 environment, so they may work on other H700-based devices running MuOS. However, I haven’t personally verified compatibility with other models, firmware versions, or operating systems.
The applications are packaged as “.muxapp” files for installation through MuOS Archive Manager.
A Note About Support and Development
I’m releasing these applications as-is.
I originally created them because I wanted these particular features on my own handheld. They’re personal projects, not applications I developed with public distribution or long-term support in mind.
Everything works well for my own purposes, but I can’t guarantee compatibility with every device, anticipate every possible issue, or promise ongoing maintenance and updates.
I may continue improving them as I use them, and I’ll happily share improvements when I make them, but there isn’t a formal development roadmap.
You’re welcome to try them, modify them, or use them as starting points for your own experiments.
Credits
XXAB and XXMP incorporate portions of the media architecture from “XMPlayer” ( GitHub - atalaygrgn/XMPlayer: A media suite for Linux handhelds with a familiar interface you know and love. · GitHub ), which is released under the MIT license.
I’m sharing these in the same spirit that motivated me to make them: curiosity, experimentation, and the enjoyment of getting a little more functionality out of inexpensive hardware.
Hopefully somebody else finds them useful!
