I know we can use Dingux Commander but it would be nice if I could delete them directly
This idea has been submitted in the past and has been discussed extensively. We have made a clear decision not to add a delete function to the content explorer. The risk of accidental deletions is simply too high, even if we were to include a confirmation prompt (of which we also do not plan to implement). Users can and do mistakenly confirm prompts, and the potential for irreversible data loss outweighs the convenience of having a delete option readily available.
Our priority is to maintain a safe and reliable experience for users. Any content removal should be handled through external applications or manual deletion by a computer.
This reply is in no way saying it’s a bad idea, we’re just keeping the deletion functionality out of the frontend. By doing so we reduce the risk of mistakes and ensure users are less likely to lose important data unintentionally.
Might be nice to have an option to “flag for deletion”, where it moves the game to a seperate folder? in which case you’d have to use dingux or a pc connection to do the deleting.
That is not a bad idea in theory, however we prefer to keep content management entirely external to maintain clarity and minimise potential support issues, but we’ll definitely keep this approach in mind as we evolve the system.
The only issue I foresee after that implementation would be “okay why can’t I select multiple?”… by that stage it might as well be a file management application and that’s not what “exploring” content is for.
How about then the option to rename a game in the list?
It’s the same reasoning as with deletion.
We treat the content explorer as a read-only interface by design. Even somewhat safe actions like renaming can introduce issues, such as breaking assigned system, or core, and potentially causing confusion if done accidentally.
Keeping the explorer essentially read-only ensures the same experience where content can be safely browsed and launched without the risk of unintended changes. Anything to do with management tasks like deleting, renaming, moving etc., are best handled externally, where users have full control and a better view of what they are doing.
Then an option could be added somewhere in the developer section to enable the ability to delete and rename with a disclaimer.
I have added a FAQ with additional notes and reasoning. Please see, File Management within Content Explorer
I’m personally happy without deltion in the OS. I give these devices to my kids and I guarentee it would cause a lot of headaches having them be able to mash buttons and delete stuff.
I honestly don’t understand people complaining about the inability to delete elements from the Explorer. Like… Dingus is right here !
