Retroarch Autosave failing on shutdown from sleep

I’m essentially having the problem mentioned in this thread, but it’s happening every time:

Auto save sometimes fails when device shutdown after sleep x amount of time

Step to reproduce: Set sleep function to “sleep 30s + shutdown”. Open a game. Press power button for device to go to sleep and wait 30s Boot the device up. Sometime device will boot into old auto save state instead of create new auto save state. This issue doesn’t happen consistently but about 1 in 3 times the device failed to auto save state before shutdown.

I’m on an RG34XXH, latest stable release of MuOS. My guess is that the shutdown script is force closing Retroarch and therefore the “autosave on quit” behaviour isn’t getting a chance?
